British-Filipino designer Nicomede Talavera has unveiled his latest collection, 'Sacred Journey', a testament to his personal evolution and artistic growth over the past three years. Talavera's journey began over a decade ago in London, where he made a splash with his unique take on men's fashion, blending his multicultural upbringing with a minimalist aesthetic. Despite the ups and downs of the industry, he remains steadfast in his vision, drawing inspiration from his cross-continent lifestyle, recent creative explorations in the Philippines, and insights gained through consultancy projects.
The Philippines holds a special place in Talavera's heart, providing emotional and cultural support, especially for his womenswear debut. Vogue Philippines has been a key supporter, offering a contrast to his upbringing in the UK. Meanwhile, Shanghai has emerged as a hub for manufacturing innovation and experimentation, allowing Talavera to delve deeper into knitwear and hardware accessories, all while maintaining competitive pricing.
For the fall 2026 collection, Talavera drew inspiration from the still-life paintings of Filipino modernist artist Arturo Luz, particularly the 'Boxes and Shells' series. He repurposed shells, creating exquisite mother-of-pearl and cowrie shell embroideries that seamlessly blended with his signature sartorial details, such as hook-and-eye fastenings, deconstructed collars, twisted plackets, angular lapel tailoring, and sock-like collars.
The women's range, born from Talavera's curiosity about form and the remarkable women in his life, featured an array of crinkled sheer tops, shorts, and skirts with pinch details. An oversized top adorned with iridescent hand-sewn pin tuck embroideries and a collection of dresses and headpieces in bold, geometric shapes showcased Talavera's unique blend of artistry and fashion.
