"It's hard to believe flu caused all this," Brian said. "But it did."
Joel has fully recovered, but he now relies on a pacemaker to maintain a regular heartbeat. His father believes timely flu vaccination could have prevented this extreme outcome.
"If Joel had received his vaccine, his hospital admission might have been avoided," Brian said. "I urge parents to take advantage of the NHS's vaccine offer."
The children's flu vaccine is available to children aged two to three, school-aged children, and those with long-term health conditions. Dr Alasdair Wood from the UK Health Security Agency highlights the importance of vaccination, especially for pregnant women and those with long-term health conditions, where uptake is low.
"Flu can be dangerous, and we want to ensure everyone is protected," he said.
